About Us

Miles Out Endurance Coaching was established by Abby Bambury and Tom Bukowski.

Abby has a First-Class Undergraduate Degree in Health, Nutrition & Exercise, and a Master’s in Public Health & Behaviour Change. Delivering the former dissertation on “Supporting Young People Who Have Experienced a Bereavement with Physical Activity”, and the latter dissertation on “Perceived Effectiveness of Exercise and Barriers to Exercise Among Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Situated in High-Income Countries”.

Abby is a Registered Nutritionist (ANutr) and has worked as a Health Coach and Nutritionist for an NHS-funded programme, providing support and guidance for patients with Type 2 Diabetes, specifically focusing on dietary and physical activity interventions with an aim to achieve disease remission. She has also managed a National Lottery Funded project, providing a facility within an area of deprivation, whereby otherwise inaccessible physical activity programmes could be delivered.

Having grown up enjoying team sports, gymnastics and dance - Abby lost interest in physical activity at age 14, and did not rediscover her love of exercise until her mid-20’s. Taking part in local 5k’s progressed to half marathons, which quickly developed to marathons. A temporary running injury resulted in a road bike purchase - and soon Gran Fondo’s and duathlons were on the agenda. Swimming soon found its way onto the weekly schedule, and subsequently, Abby found herself racing in 70.3 and Ironman distance triathlons. Unsurprisingly, next came ultra running - and Abby has enjoyed success in this sport ever since.

Abby understands how important exercise is for an individual’s physical and mental health - and that “success” can look very different from one athlete to another. She recognises that athletes can face many different types of barriers when it comes to achieving their goals; be that psychological, social or environmental - and she is determined to work with athletes to find ways of overcoming these barriers.

Abby also feels strongly that we are all different as individuals, so a copy-and-paste approach to coaching is not conducive to athlete satisfaction or success. She is passionate about truly understanding an athlete’s goals and desires, and how an individual’s idiosyncrasies and characteristics should be considered when prescribing the most beneficial and sustainable approach to training. She also recognises that circumstances can change, so the need to adapt is vital.
